SS-430 is a ferritic stainless steel that contains chromium but very little nickel. That makes it more affordable than 304 grade while still giving a clean stainless finish and reasonable resistance to everyday moisture.
SS-304 contains nickel, which gives it noticeably better resistance to rust and staining. SS-430 costs less and works well indoors in normal bathroom conditions. For coastal homes, pool areas, commercial kitchens or drains exposed to strong cleaning chemicals, 304 is the better choice. Jayna’s other grating ranges are made in 304.
Yes. SS-430 is magnetic, but 304 generally isn’t. Testing with a magnet is a quick way to tell the two grades apart.
In normal indoor use with regular cleaning, it holds up well. In constantly wet, salty or chemical-heavy conditions, it can show surface spots sooner than 304. Rinsing and wiping the grating every so often helps it last longer.
